Ambras Castle

Located in the hills above Innsbruck and visible from afar, Ambras Castle is one of the city's main attractions. The castle houses a museum that contains Archduke Ferdinand II's art collections as well as also hosting regular changing exhibitions. Ambras Castle is the only museum outside Vienna that falls under the auspices of Austrian Federal Museums (Bundesmuseen). The castle's glorious grounds are also worth a visit. Their present appearance is still partially attributable to the design that was executed for Archduke Ferdinand II. Every year, a festival takes place in the castle grounds during which children and adults are transported back to the wonderful world of the Renaissance period, with stilt walkers, jugglers, storytellers and musicians.
